What’s up, folks? Our dude King Charles is shaking things up big time since taking over the throne last year. This new monarch is all about greening up the royals’ ride game to be easier on good ol’ Mother Earth. We’re talking a serious sustainable travel glow-up for their fancy shmancy royal engagements.
So let’s break down some of the fresh eco-moves Charles has already rolled out to put the royal family’s travel on an environmentally-friendly track:
Peace Out Gas Guzzlers, What Up Biofuels!
Can you even picture the Queen’s iconic Bentleys cruising around powered by straight up veggie scraps and recycled grease? Well, that’s exactly what Chuck has done as a temporary fix. He converted both his slick state whips to run on biofuel while they make the transition to upgrading the whole damn royal fleet to fresh electric rides. Now that’s how you cut emissions!
High-Flying Sustainability
Word on the street is those royal helicopters were getting mad old at 15 years. So instead of sticking with gas-chugging, pollution-puking choppers, the King is upgrading to brand spankin’ new whirlybirds capable of running on that sustainable aviation fuel we’ve been hearing about. Bet you didn’t see that one coming from the royals!
Sustainable Fuel on Deck
To really make that sustainable air travel happen, there are plans in the works to get a permanent sustainable aviation fuel tank installed at the Royal Air Force base by 2025-2026. For now, they’ve got a temporary one set up to ensure they never have to resort to nasty regular jet fuel. That’s what I call pulling out all the stops!
Mindful Travel Planning
In the past, the royals pretty much just jet-setted all willy-nilly. But now, the royal household actually takes the environmental impact into account when planning travel for all their bougey appearances and tours. They’re finding ways to cut unnecessary trips while still being on point and fiscally responsible. Sustainability for the win, baby!

The Sustainability Boss Has Arrived
To really double down on their big eco-ambitions, the royals brought in Ruth Knight as their new Head of Sustainability in early 2024. With her awesome background in environmental leadership, she’s the perfect lady to keep steering the monarchy towards more planet-positive practices across the board.
So okay, yeah the royals still have a long road ahead to go full-blown “green” with their whole royal situation. But you gotta admit, King Charles is taking some genuinely impressive first steps to sustainable-ify their travel. From biofuel car conversions to slashing emissions from air travel, the dude is 100% walking the eco-friendly walk.
With an actual green superhero like Ruth Knight running point now, I’m sure we’ll only see the royals getting more and more environmentally conscious as time goes on. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll even see princes biking to their engagements! Hey, a guy can dream, right? Let’s just hope Chuck keeps prioritizing the planet’s wellbeing with dope initiatives like this. The earth could definitely use a sustainability-driving monarch to rally behind these days.
